The Ceremony
Each spring, Smithtown High School East and Smithtown High School West each hold their own Senior Music Awards Night. Students, families, music teachers, and community donors gather to recognize the accomplishments of graduating seniors who have made music a central part of their high school experience.

Friends of Music Presents
Friends of Music honors graduating seniors in two meaningful ways. One happens at the Awards Night; the other happens at the final concert of the year.
Each year, Friends of Music awards the Friends of Music "Presidential" Scholarship to an outstanding senior musician at each high school. This scholarship is funded entirely by Friends of Music member dues and fundraising, and is one of the most meaningful ways your membership directly supports Smithtown students.
The recipient is selected by the Music Department. Every deserving senior may be selected — but the monetary award requires active membership by December 31, 2026. A student who is not a member will still be recognized at the ceremony; membership is what unlocks the scholarship check.
At the last concert of the year, seniors who participated in music all four years of high school receive a personalized plaque. Purchased and presented by Friends of Music, because that kind of dedication deserves to be honored in a lasting way.
Every four-year senior musician receives a plaque. No application, no selection process. If you showed up for four years, you earned it.
Award Categories
The Senior Music Awards Night includes honors from many different sources: the Music Department, named community scholarships, outside organizations, and Friends of Music. Together, these awards reflect the full depth of support behind Smithtown music students.
Presented by music teachers to recognize outstanding achievement in specific ensembles and disciplines: orchestra, band, choir, jazz, and more.
Established by families, alumni, and community members in honor of individuals who loved music. These scholarships carry lasting stories and meaningful legacies.
Regional music education organization scholarships recognizing excellence at the county and state level.
Recognizes students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership throughout their music career.
Honoring students who excelled in both varsity athletics and music, demonstrating outstanding balance and commitment.
Funded by Friends of Music member dues. Awarded at both high schools to a senior musician chosen by the Music Department.
